Charges in medical marijuana case expected to be dropped today

The Larimer County District Attorney is expected to drop charges in the medical marijuana case against Fort Collins residents James and Lisa Masters, the couple's defense attorney said today.

The Masters face one count each of felony marijuana cultivation and intent to distribute. The two were caregivers for the Colorado Compassion Club, which has provided medical marijuana to sick Coloradans since 2002, according to attorneys.

"Based on our conversations with prosecutors, we are confident in saying this case will be dropped today. So the saga ends," said Brian Vicente, attorney for the Masters, in a news release. "This is a victory for patients and those who care for them."

This case began in August, 2006 when Larimer police found about 30 marijuana plants in the Masters Fort Collins home.

The couple has a 3 p.m. hearing today at Larimer District Court, 201 La Porte Ave.
